GENERAL DUTIES
IT Assistants perform entry-level professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically IT Assistants work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar based on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving minor technology problems, monitoring activities, and maintaining documentation. They have latitude for independent initiative and judgment, under supervision.

Under the leadership of its new Dean, Dr. Dara N. Byrne, Macaulay Honors College is on a distinct mission to reimagine equity, excellence, and access.
Reporting to the IT Manager, and working in collaboration with members of the IT Department, the IT Assistant Hourly will provide hardware and software support primarily to staff, as well as faculty and students. The incumbent will assist in maintenance, implementation, troubleshooting and end-user support for desktop applications, mobile devices, and servers, as well as IP telephony systems and multimedia. This is a hands-on, technical position in a Mac environment.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Resolves minor technical problems for end users with their Apple devices, desktops and laptops, Apple iPhones and iPads, and Android devices;
Assists in planning, analyzing and maintaining: Desktop and Servers, macOS, Windows, Linux; System and Network Infrastructure;
Performs routine preventive maintenance and adjustments according to specified guidelines and procedures;
Under supervision, troubleshoots, repairs and replaces electronic equipment including hard drives, printers, video and audio hardware;
Maintains documentation and written reports; participates in task forces to resolve security and configuration issues;
Under supervision, interacts with multiple stakeholders within CUNY and outside vendors to troubleshoot and resolve issues;
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Level 1
A High School diploma or its educational equivalent from an accredited institution and two (2) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
An Associate?s degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
A Bachelor?s degree from an accredited college or university and six (6) months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
A Bachelor?s degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Level 2
A High School diploma or its educational equivalent from an accredited institution and three (3) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
An Associate?s degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
A Bachelor?s degree from an accredited college or university and eighteen (18) months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position.
A Bachelor?s degree from an accredited college or university in a computer related field and one (1) year of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position.
Level 3
A High School diploma or its educational equivalent from an accredited institution and five (5) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
An Associate?s degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
A Bachelor?s degree from an accredited college or university and three (3) years and six (6) months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or
A Bachelor?s degree from an accredited college or university in a computer related field and three (3) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position.
English Language Proficiency: Demonstrated English language proficiency, including the ability to speak, read, write and understand English well enough to meet minimally acceptable performance standards set for job tasks.
CUNY considers full-time work to be at least 35 hours per week. Part-time experience of at least 20 hours per week may be prorated by half and credited instead of, but not in addition to, full-time experience during the same period (e.g., two month?s related work experience at 20-34 hours per week equate to one month?s full-time related work experience.) Part-time experience of fewer than 20 hours per week cannot receive any credit.
Note: A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York, may be required for certain positions. If you have moving violations, license suspension(s) or an accident record, you may be disqualified. If appointed to a position requiring a Motor Vehicle Driver License, this license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
A preferred candidate should have:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Subject matter expert with Apple devices (iOS, macOS hardware and software).
Demonstrated proficiency utilizing the command line across macOS, Windows and Linux to troubleshoot, diagnose and correct underlying technical issues.
Familiarity of client-server implementations of Active Directory, VMware, virtualization platforms, etc. in a hybrid environment (macOS, Windows, Linux).
Familiarity of Mobile Device Management platforms like Endpoint Central and Munki open-source, including reporting tools such as MunkiReport.
Familiarity with Cloud and Hybrid implementations, such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace particularly in the most common SaaS tools (email, messaging, video conference, etc.).
Experience with Cyber Security concepts (TLS/SSL, PKI, PGP), and tools (Palo Alto Cortex and Firewall.
Networking support, wireless and wired, across all the layers of the TCP/IP stack (DHCP, DNS, VPN, etc.).
Familiarity with other open-source technologies is a plus.
Ability to work productively as an individual contributor and collaboratively as a team member in a fast- paced, time-sensitive, customer-responsive, and team-oriented environment.
At least two years of experience in higher education with IT support in a hands-on, highly technical, Mac environment.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
