Great Lakes Energy is seeking a Business Security Analyst to support the development, implementation, and maintenance of our enterprise-wide business security solutions. In this role, you'll help ensure our systems and data remain secure, resilient, and compliant with key regulations and security frameworks.
Who We Are
For over 85 years, Great Lakes Energy has powered rural communities across 26 counties in western and northern Michigan. As the third-largest Michigan-based electric utility and the state’s largest member-owned power company, we serve over 128,000 meters with pride. Beyond delivering reliable electricity, we are leaders in advanced fiber technology through Truestream, our communication solutions subsidiary.
At Great Lakes Energy, we prioritize enriching the lives of our community members and employees. With over 300 team members, we’re more than just colleagues—we’re a close-knit family, united by a shared vision of growth, innovation, and community service.
A Day in The Life of a Business Security Analyst
Your focus will be on strengthening our security posture by helping maintain and improve our disaster recovery plans, patch management processes, and business continuity efforts. You'll evaluate security infrastructure like firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access control to reduce risks and defend against cybersecurity threats.
You’ll assist in ensuring regulatory compliance with frameworks such as NIST, SANS Top 20, PCI DSS, HIPAA, and NERC/CIP by analyzing controls and supporting internal audits and attestations. You'll also help monitor physical and logical security systems, analyze potential risks, and provide recommendations to improve our overall security program.
Who You Are
You’re a detail-oriented professional with a strong foundation in cybersecurity and enterprise technologies. You understand the architecture of complex networks and are comfortable navigating firewalls, VPNs, access control, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
You bring at least four years of relevant experience and hold a bachelor’s degree in computer networks and systems, computer information systems, or a related field—or have equivalent education and experience. You’re familiar with key security frameworks like SANS Top 20, PCI DSS, HIPAA, and NERC/CIP, and understand the OSI model, business continuity planning, and disaster recovery strategies.
You’re also proficient in tools like Microsoft Office (Project and Visio preferred), and you may even hold industry certifications in areas such as SIEM, MFA, or encryption—which would give you an edge.
If you're a skilled security-minded professional ready to support and enhance critical infrastructure protection, we’d love to hear from you!
