Chief Counsel, Litigation & Risk
Job Description Summary
The Chief Counsel Litigation & Risk reports to and works closely with the Chief Legal Officer as well as other commercial and corporate leaders. The position is a member of the Department's Senior Leadership Team. The role will oversee the company's litigation docket globally. In addition, the role will oversee the company's insurance portfolio globally (which includes a captive insurance company), including procuring lines of coverage and overseeing processes for tendering and managing claims.

Key Responsibilities
· Provide leadership, advice, and counsel on significant legal disputes involving the company, including those related to employment, contractual breach, injury, and other corporate matters
· Coordinate communications between outside counsel and the Companyâ™s senior management in relation to all matters in which the company is assisted by outside counsel (including case strategy decisions, settlement decisions, fees and costs, etc.)
· Provide regular reporting to internal stakeholders on a variety of metrics related to litigation and legal claim management
· Coordinate the assembly of information, documents, and witnesses needed by the company in defense of or in pursuit of various legal claims and actions
· Assist with Litigation Hold, e-discovery, and document management program oversight
· Obtain and renew lines of insurance coverage for the company on a global basis, striking the right balance between cost of coverage and risk transfer
· Oversee processes related to workers compensation claims handling, insurance claim tendering, and uninsured claim handling and defense
· Assist with the preparation of quarterly and year-end Auditor reports, SEC filings and updates to the Companyâ™s Board of Directors
· Budget responsibility related to outside counsel expenses, which is a meaningful component of the Departmentâ™s overall budge
· Champion the use of technology tools and model the efficient and effective use of the tools for others to see
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Requirements:
· Bachelorâ™s & JD degree required.
· Member, in good standing, of an applicable State Bar
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE & KEY COMPETENCIES:
· Substantial experience (15+ years) in managing litigation & insurance, with at least 5 years in a corporate environment.
· At least 5 years♠experience as a people leader
· Experience with law firm management and oversight, as well as the oversight of complex litigation
· Familiarity with insurance lines of coverage, underwriting, claims handling, and related risk items; familiarly with captive insurance is desired but not required
· Sound judgment and ability to make decisions under pressure with imperfect information
· Excellent communication, negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
· Ability to provide clear and concise, business-oriented legal advice
· Willingness to be accountable as appropriate and with an appropriate risk tolerance as defined by the company
· Skilled at working in a matrix environment and possessing the emotional intelligence to be successful in such an environment
· Impeccable professional integrity and trustworthiness
· Ability to travel up to 10%.

The company will not pay less than minimum wage for this role.
