Lakeside School—an independent day school serving grades 5 through 12 in North Seattle—seeks a dedicated and proactive Community Safety Coordinator to help foster a secure, welcoming, and prepared campus environment. This is a unique opportunity to play a visible and mission-critical role on a vibrant school campus known for its academic excellence, inclusive community, and forward-thinking leadership.
As the Community Safety Coordinator, you will be instrumental in planning and supporting safety and emergency preparedness efforts across all three Lakeside campuses: two in North Seattle and The Downtown School located at Seattle Center. You will serve as a key resource during the school day and after-hours events, ensuring that safety is both felt and functional throughout our community. The ideal candidate will bring a solid foundation in safety and security operations, along with strong computer and technology skills to support digital tools, security systems, and communication platforms essential to the role.
This full-time, extended school-year, non-exempt position reports directly to the Director of Community Safety. The position also requires flexibility, including occasional evening and weekend hours based on campus safety needs.

Responsibilities
Coordinate the safety and security-related duties for events and functions.
Assist in developing and implementing emergency management and security programs, services, and emergency preparedness initiatives.
Assist with the mapping of facilities, buildings, classrooms, and common indoor spaces.
Assist in ensuring emergency supplies are properly maintained and updated.
Provide community safety coverage for the campus and perform the duties of a community safety officer.
Respond to security and emergency situations on campus.
Assist in investigations and complete incident reports as needed.
Assist in ensuring that all visitors to campus have proper identification and approval.
Assist with working with community members to prevent crime.
Assist in safety training for students and employees.
Coordinate monthly safety drills and manage the maintenance and updates of emergency attendance records.
Use software and security technology to monitor campus activity.
Patrol assigned areas on foot and/or in a vehicle to ensure the safety and security of students, employees, and visitors.
Provide hospitality information, directions, parking, and escort service as needed. Assist with scheduling and administering special event parking and traffic control, and safety.
Inform and warn individuals who are in violation of school rules and/or city regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform the essential duties of this job.
At least five years of experience in a security or public safety organization,
Experience working in an educational environment is preferred.
Demonstrated experience in emergency management and security programs, services, and emergency preparedness initiatives.
Calm demeanor in stressful situations and the ability to make quick decisions during emergencies.
Experience working with student information systems, such as Veracross, is preferred.
Computer (PC/Windows) proficiency is required, including all Microsoft Office programs and Google Workspace.
Experience in emergency management systems, such as the ICS, is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to manage and use software and security technology, including door access control, video surveillance systems, and mass notification systems.
Possess a current and valid Washington State Driver’s license, a good driving record, and be able to operate school vehicles.
Calm demeanor in stressful situations and the ability to make quick decisions during emergencies.
Demonstrated ability to lead and train new personnel.
Excellent communication and public relations skills.
Experience in a customer-related field preferred.
Knowledge of the principles of CPTED.
Knowledge of state laws and regulations
Working knowledge of security operations and safety practices
Enforce policies and procedures
Ability to work and communicate cooperatively with co-workers, staff, and contractors
Ability to work independently and ask for assistance when necessary
Ability to communicate effectively with students (ages 10-18), teachers, administrators, fellow employees, parents and guardians, alumni, trustees, and independent contractors.

Familiarity with protocols for communication and working with local, state, and federal law enforcement, life safety, environmental, and public health agencies.
Current CPR, first aid, and AED certification, or the ability to obtain within the first 90 days of employment.

Salary and Benefits This is a full-time, extended school-year, non-exempt position with an hourly range of $35-$40. Pay is based on several factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.The schedule typically runs from early August through late June or early July (approximately 42 weeks), aligning with the traditional academic calendar and is subject to occasional changes.
All school breaks—including winter, mid-winter, spring break, and Thanksgiving week—are designated non-working days. The schedule includes holidays and a portion of the summer off, providing a substantial annual break.
