Job Title: IT Support Specialist (Leave Replacement)
Reports to: Chief of Technology
Position Overview
The IT Support Specialist is a resourceful and hands-on professional, providing front-line technical support to faculty, staff, and students in a fast-paced, mission-driven academic setting. We're looking for a self-starter who can independently manage hardware/software troubleshooting, maintain reliable classroom technology, and contribute to our broader IT infrastructure and initiatives.
This position is ideal for a tech-savvy professional who thrives in school environments, enjoys solving problems quickly and collaboratively, and can hit the ground running with minimal ramp-up.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
End-User Support (50%)
- Provide responsive and professional support to faculty, staff, and students on-site.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, AV, and peripheral issues (Mac and PC).
- Track and prioritize all service requests using the school’s ticketing system.
- Provide informal training and tech guidance to users as needed.
- Escalate issues appropriately to senior IT staff or vendors.
Routine Maintenance (30%)
- Configure and deploy new laptops, desktops, and phones.
- Perform upgrades and repairs on computers, printers, and AV systems.
- Ensure classrooms and meeting spaces are AV-ready daily.
- Maintain inventory of tech equipment, accessories, and supplies.
- Support backup systems and routine data integrity checks.
Infrastructure Support (20%)
- Assist with network hardware (switches, access points, cabling).
- Support system documentation, software testing, and deployment rollouts.
- Participate in any technology setup for school events or classroom projects.
Other:

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time temporary, five-month position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a half-hour paid lunch. Evening and weekend work for special events is required as job duties demand, and will be scheduled in advance.
Travel
On occasion, travel between campuses is necessary for meetings, which are scheduled with advance notice and are within walking distance from each other.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to maintain the physical capacity required to navigate the school environment and to ensure the safety of the students. The ability to open filing cabinets and bend, sit or stand for long periods of time, as necessary. Classroom locations vary based on student schedules; this position ascends/descends stairs to and from different rooms in the building.
This role also requires the ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, such as projectors, laptops, and printers, as needed to support daily activities and classroom and office operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- BA preferred a minimum of 2 years of experience in IT support, preferably in education or non-profit settings.
- Working knowledge of Windows, macOS, Google Workspace, JAMF, MDM systems, and printers/copiers.
- Familiarity with wired and wireless networking and basic infrastructure concepts.
- Comfortable lifting/moving IT equipment and crawling into awkward tech spaces (ceilings, under desks, etc.).
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks independently.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, this position's annual base salary range is $64,000- $70,000.
