Summary: This role will work with the Government Relations team to support external relations, influence health policy changes, and advance policy priorities to improve the health and well-being of children. The primary emphasis of the work will be on Municipal/City and State government, and will be assigned based on departmental needs and the external landscape. They will report to a Director in the Government Relations dept
Responsibilities:

• Represent the Hospital on local, state, or civic initiatives, coalitions, and workgroups as identified by the VP of Government Relations and dept Directors
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with policymakers and staff, partner orgs, assoc., and external groups. Support senior staff in building and maintaining relationships with local or state officials and civic/business/community organizations intersecting with BCH's community engagement and policy priorities
• Develop and advance advocacy plans and approaches around specific pieces of legislation, including substantive drafting of bill language for legislative and regulatory priorities. Responsibility for submitting responses, creating presentations, and drafting memos to inform, educate, and support other team members and departments
• Create high-level content for internal and external advocacy communications and pediatric policy issues. Develop documents, meeting materials, and presentations, and proofread and edit materials for content messaging and grammar
• Actively engage with internal teams around the financial, analytical, and business implications of policy work and legislative priorities. Advise on financial contributions to partner orgs
• Oversee the coordination and logistical planning for signature hospital advocacy events in Boston and surrounding areas, both virtually and in-person. Plan and coordinate educational tours of the hospital for elected officials. Coordinate the involvement of clinicians and hospital leadership in events and tours to convey hospital priorities effectively
• Provide organizational support to facilitate collaboration across a broad range of local or state orgs and agencies to support the work of stakeholders and partners. Responsibility for setting agendas, scheduling meetings, developing presentations, and coordinating collective responses to policy issues
• Maintain record-keeping systems, schedule meetings and tours, coordinate meeting locations and catering, submit travel expense reports, update hospital contact management databases, and compile and distribute reports

Education/Experience:

• A Bachelor's degree & 4 yrs of previous related experience (a directly related internship may be considered as exp) A Master's degree and 3 yrs exp would also be acceptable
• Knowledge of, or experience with, municipal and state government and policymaking in MA
• Existing relationships and/or experience engaging with statewide, municipal, or community leaders or organizations in the City of Boston, in Greater Boston, and/or across MA
• Deep commitment to the mission of advancing the health and well-being of children in Boston and MA
• Knowledge or past work in community or public health, health care, health inequities, children's health, or other related policy areas.
• Knowledge and or experience with legislative and regulatory processes
• Excellent communication skills - writing skills preferred
• Hybrid/remote - 2-3 days in house (Tuesdays is required)
