PowerSouth Energy Cooperative,headquartered in Andalusia, AL, is a generation and transmission (G&T) electric cooperative serving the wholesale power needs of 20 distribution members – 16 electric cooperatives and four municipal electric systems – in Alabama and northwest Florida. Today, PowerSouth remains a trusted energy provider for our member systems, who serve end-use consumers in 39 counties in Alabama and ten counties in Florida.

JOB SUMMARY & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The purpose of this position is to provide technical support for mission critical internetworking and security technologies in dynamic and innovative operating environments. These mission critical networks leverage complex hardened designs for reliability; high levels of redundancy for availability; and route diversity for resiliency. Various technologies are employed to maintain physical and cyber security ranging from access controls and authentication to filtering and encryption. Supported mission critical systems include business and power grid operations. In addition, this position is responsible for performing routine duties including administration/management of: browser URL/proxy filtering, email relay/spam filtering; intrusion detection/prevention systems; network filtering including firewall and ACL (access control lists); network forensic analysis including SIEM (security information and event management); network switching and routing over numerous LAN/WAN systems; PACS (physical access control systems), NMS (network management system) monitoring, logging, and alerting; and video surveillance systems. This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related area. Basic programming skills are essential. In addition, demonstrated strong analytical and organizational skills, which include initiative and deductive reasoning capabilities, is required as well as the ability to work cooperatively with others, organize and coordinate work schedules, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The incumbent must be able to handle multiple tasks and efficiently prioritize as they occur.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides routine reporting and event-based notification to support staff, management, member owners and end user customer communities to facilitate analytical and administrative decision making.
Provides coordination and notification of scheduled and unscheduled network system disturbances and compliance related activities to affected technology stakeholders. Scheduled system impacts such as hardware or software upgrades should include prior coordination to affected stakeholders. Unplanned disturbances should include routine progress updates followed by notification of completion.
Ensure optimum network architecture and security operations by embracing: strong network segmentation, default deny security policies with implicit deny and explicit allow, principal of least privilege, high availability, and dynamic routing; implement management systems that will provide performance monitoring, alarm/event notification to detect abnormalities, and required logging for forensic reviews.
Stay abreast of technology innovations by maintaining continuing education and certifications through professional associations and routine training opportunities with industry partners. These training opportunities are expected to provide good architecture modeling for enhanced design, upgrades, operations, maintenance, monitoring, controls, and advanced troubleshooting capabilities.
Ensures PowerSouth's compliance with all regulatory compliance standards and industry best practices. Develops and maintains schedules for system/equipment maintenance/upgrades to ensure regulatory and industry/vendor compliance, operating performance efficiencies, and equipment/system security; ensures system enhancements are well tested and documented to satisfy user and regulatory requirements; ensures equipment/applications are deployed in a secure manner, data is protected, and access is controlled; assists in development of standards, company policies/procedures and general administrative activities as required; develops and administers training programs; oversees/controls application level patches, upgrades and infrastructure expansion/retrofits, monitoring of protective security devices/systems, performance and bandwidth utilization; ensures security measures for applications/data are being taken cost efficiently and diligently for effective recovery.
