Incumbent is an experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with an in-depth understanding of the professional field; independently performs a full range of responsibilities within the function; possesses broad job knowledge; and analyses problems and issues of divers scope and determines solutions.
Incumbent applies skills as a seasoned and experienced communications professional with a full understanding of industry practices and relevant policies and procedures. Resolves a wide range of complex issues. Demonstrates competency in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions.
Incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the low voltage cabling designs and implementing UCDH approved designs for cabling installations related to IT Facilities capital construction projects. Collaborates with IT Cable designers or external design groups providing documentation and instruction to maintain structure in deliverables and objectives related to UCDH construction projects. Works with engineering staff to plan and execute agile layer one communications cabling designs providing leadership to meet UCDH standard, specifications and schedules. Provides direction by implementing and creating metrics to inform administration of accomplishments while providing assurance of task completion as related to FP&D capital construction projects.

Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience/training.
Five to seven years of the following experience:
Experienced in maintaining Division 27/28 specifications to convey necessary IT requirements in a concise manner
Experience with the installation of low voltage cabling and fiber, along with the termination and testing of these low voltage systems
Experience with the build out of an IT closet design, including fire requirements, wall penetrations, fire stopping, etc.
Experience working in a large healthcare environment
Experience with low voltage tools such as a fusion splicer, Fluke, etc.
Demonstrated thorough knowledge of professional communications and network concepts necessary to resolve issue using established parameters, creativity and independent judgment - escalating when necessary.
Thorough understanding of various low voltage platforms, related protocols, and code requirements, including an understanding of OSI layers 1 & 2.
In-depth experience with low voltage/network diagnostic and performance management tools and software.
Thorough and broad knowledge and experience working with network and low voltage systems.
Ability to gather data, develop solutions and complete a variety of functional assignments.
Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
Prior Campus, medical center or other university setting experience.
Knowledge of materials required for an acceptable installation related to low voltage systems in-wall and in-rack
Knowledge of asbestos considerations when working in hazardous environments
Skilled in developing, interpreting and maintaining construction drawings to illustrate IT cabling pathways and deliverables, to enable other IT Teams and vendors to complete installations/deliverables
Skilled in developing criteria documents to convey IT deliverables in a concise manner
In depth knowledge of industry standards associated with a registered communications distribution design

Knowledge pertaining to the installation and termination of fiber, copper, coax, 18/2, dvi, HDMI, and other common communications cabling mediums.
Ability to read and analyze fiber and copper test results for university acceptance.
Skilled in testing copper and fiber cabling. Ability to terminate typical Ethernet and Fiber Optic Cables.
Ability to enter a confined space such as a maintenance vault or asbestos confinement.
Knowledge of electronic equipment pertaining to DAS, 70 volt and IP based paging systems.

Department Overview
UC Davis Health Information Technology (UCDH IT) accomplishes design, planning and implementation activities to provide infrastructure, network and hardware systems to service the Health System's needs for teaching, clinical excellence, and research. The IT Implementations Team is responsible for planning, design, deployment, troubleshooting, and support for infrastructure, network and hardware deployed as result of Facilities Design & Construction Projects. This Team also supports the low voltage design and connectivity for the network, applications, and ancillary services, as well as providing technological leadership and support for the cost-effective use of low voltage cabling, infrastructure design and installation.
