The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of UC Irvine faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education and community service goals of the University.
Your Role on the Team
The Vice Provost of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, serves as the University's primary organizational and technical leader for information technology. This role provides strategic vision, operational leadership, and direct oversight for the Office of Information Technology, ensuring the delivery of a full spectrum of secure, cost-effective, and innovative technology systems, products, and services campus-wide, including the College of Health Sciences. The position is accountable for technology operations management, infrastructure, enterprise systems, telecommunications, and services that support the University's educational, research, clinical, and administrative missions.
The Vice Provost of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer is responsible for program development, policy direction, and strategy formulation to advance UCI's strategic goals. This includes planning, assessment, and deployment of new technologies to ensure optimal interoperability, value creation, and robust cybersecurity. The role oversees processes that promote scientific advancement, knowledge dissemination, and operational effectiveness across campus, while fostering a cohesive, collaborative, high-performing, and diverse work environment that values contributions from leadership, faculty, staff, and students.
The Vice Provost of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer directs the development of secure IT strategies and solutions, prepares and evaluates requests for proposals, selects leading-edge technologies, and manages institutional vendor relationships. Success in this role requires close collaboration with University leadership, including the UCI Health CIO and leaders, to establish value added IT services that improve business efficiency and effectiveness. The Vice Provost of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer will also partner extensively with IT leadership across the University of California system and the Office of the President to align local efforts with systemwide initiatives.
A customer service focused and relationship-driven leader, the Vice Provost of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer must be adept at building consensus in a multi-stakeholder IT environment, demonstrating strong relationship-building skills, and maintaining a positive, innovative, and collaborative culture. This is a highly interactive and inclusive leadership position that blends strategic vision with operational excellence to position UC Irvine at the forefront of higher education technology.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required:
Ability to handle the executive management responsibilities in a complex organization. General knowledge of and experience in a broad range of academic and administrative information technologies and systems, including technology tools to directly support research, and administrative support to core university activities.
Expert knowledge of business and strategic planning, financial management, program development implementation and organizational development. Information technologies including data processing methods and procedures; computing software, hardware and network systems supporting research, education and security systems. Broad knowledge of the latest and evolving developments in advanced technologies and information systems.
Possesses a highly advanced ability to work collaboratively and effectively with campus executives, leadership, and external agencies. Business principles and techniques of administration, organization, and management to include an in-depth understanding of the key business issues that exist. These include, but are not limited to, knowledge of strategic and operational planning; personnel administration; federal, state and local laws; marketing, and financial and cost analysis.
Strong understanding of enterprise and other application systems design and development processes, including requirements analysis, feasibility studies, software design, programming, pilot testing, installation, evaluation and operational management.
Highly advanced ability to build and maintain a climate of trust that inspires commitment to achieve organization goals.
Expert knowledge of capital and operating budget development and management, financial analysis, and reporting techniques. Business operations as it pertains to third party billing and reimbursement activities and other financial activities.
Advanced knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements as well as legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in sensitive situations that may involve public scrutiny.
Highly advanced interpersonal skills. Expert negotiation and influencing skills.
Expert ability to establish and utilize metrics to drive excellence, support operations and facilitate integration.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems OR equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
Advanced degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field is preferred.
A minimum twelve (12) years of progressive experience within information technology with a minimum of seven (7) years of significant IT senior leadership experience: strategic planning, project planning, budgeting, leading the efforts of directors and managers responsible for operating a range of IT.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $350,000- $450,000 (Annual).
