Job Summary: | Marist University seeks applications for the position of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) / Security Officer. The EMT / Security Officer is responsible for providing excellent customer service and focuses on safety and security to all members of the Marist community. This position supports the institutional ideals of excellence in education, a sense of community, and a commitment to service. The EMT / Security Officer is responsible for the safety and security of the campus community, remains alert and always engaged, demonstrates an understanding and embraces engagement with a diverse population, and is capable of handling crisis situations by responding in accordance with department standard operating procedures. The EMT / Security Officer is also responsible for responding to on-campus emergency medical calls, conducting scene size ups, performing patient assessments, and providing emergency medical care until advanced life support arrives on scene. |
Minimum Qualifications: | - High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Possess a valid New York State Security Guard license.
- Possess a valid New York State Department of Health issued Emergency Medical Technician certification. Required to maintain all Emergency Medical Technician licensure qualifications and competencies as required by the New York State Department of Health.
- Demonstrate competency in handling emergencies using basic life support equipment in accordance with prescribed techniques and established protocols.
- Ability to use prescribed techniques and equipment to provide patient care and provide additional emergency care following established protocols.
- Possess a valid New York State Driver’s License with no serious convictions.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs or more
- Must be available for flexible hours and on-call status.

Essential Functions: | - Respond to emergency medical calls, conduct scene size-up, perform patient assessment, provide emergency medical care for illness and/or injury, and write patient pre-hospital care reports.
- Patrol assigned area on foot or in an assigned motor vehicle to ensure campus community member safety and security as well as to protect and preserve university property
- Examine doors, windows, and gates to ensure security; use University keys to open and close buildings
- Monitor closed buildings for unauthorized people and/or suspicious activities
- Inform and warn violators of rule infractions, such as trespassing, use of illegal drugs, or possession of a weapon on campus
- Provide escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty, as necessary; provides other public assistance, such as directions, lockout services, jump-starts, and other routine assistance
- Watch for and reports irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations
- Contact emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, as required
- Remain alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security code violators; approach suspicious persons and/or notify police as appropriate; may confront and/or detain violators, as required, until police arrive
- Perform periodic checks of fire / life safety equipment, as well as campus lighting, to ensure proper functioning; report malfunctions as required
- Provide safe and efficient transportation for campus community members and guests upon request using patrol vehicles
- Patrol and monitor assigned parking areas to provide public security and enforce infractions utilizing automated ticket system.
- Write accurate and detailed post-incident case reports, using the department’s online report writing system, for management review and approval
- Perform public safety telecommunicator duties including call taking, officer dispatching, resource management, interagency coordination, and call logging / report assignments
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
- Provide strong student focused costumer service
- Identify fire safety issues and report observations

- Tuition Benefits:
- Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
- College pays 100% tuition only.
- Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.
