Brown University

Posted: 16-Sep-25
Location: Providence, RI
Internal Number: 173970
The Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies (CAAS) is administrative home to an NIH Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE). This $12 million, 5-year grant has established the Center for Addiction and Disease Risk Exacerbation (CADRE). Our thematic focus is on the relationship between substance use and chronic disease. We seek to recruit faculty with interests addressing disparities in vulnerable populations and are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate with interest in addressing substance use in high-risk groups, including those experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage and other factors that elevate risk for chronic disease. The postdoctoral research associate will primarily work with one or a team of the following Peter Monti, PhD (CADRE PI and Director), Jasjit S. Ahluwalia, MD, MPH, MS (Deputy Director), Jennifer Tidey, PhD (Core Leader), Tyler Wray, PhD (Core Leader), Mollie Monnig, PhD (Associate Director for Research Capacity), Lauren Micalizzi, PhD (Research Project Lead), Cara Murphy, PhD (Research Project Lead), and Alex Sokolovsky, PhD (Research Project Lead). Opportunities to participate in ongoing studies, new pilot studies, work on team grant writing and write one’s own grant are available.
CAAS research includes laboratory studies of alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana use; clinical trials testing behavioral and pharmacologic interventions; studies of intervention mechanisms (using electronic diaries, cue reactivity, behavioral economics, and analysis of therapeutic process variables), alcohol/HIV research, and tobacco regulatory science. CAAS currently has over 60 research grants focused on alcohol and other drug use, representing nearly $11.2 million in direct costs per year.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will join the robust training platform of Brown’s renowned T32 programs in substance use funded by NIDA and NIAAA (https://www.brown.edu/public-health/caas/postdoctoral-training-program). This includes structured didactic seminars, supervised research experience, manuscript writing (first and co-authored papers), and an intensive mentored grant writing process. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, and reviews will continue until positions are filled.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (in a relevant discipline, including but not limited to public health, behavioral sciences, psychology, and sociology) at the time the appointment begins.
Applicants should apply by submitting a cover letter (stating research interests, past experience, and career goals) and a curriculum vitae formally online via Interfolio (https://apply.interfolio.com/173970). Candidates should address how they would contribute to the research and/or teaching missions of our diverse and inclusive university community. Please indicate in your letter of application the search number (PH-342). Additionally, send materials via email to Dr. Jasjit S. Ahluwalia (cadre-postdoc@brown.edu) with the subject heading "Postdoctoral Research Associate Application."
