The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) at the University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) invites applications for one tenure-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Information Technology (IT). This is a full-time (100% FTE) position with a nine-month service period, with an expected start date of September 16, 2026. The initial appointment is for a three-year period, renewable upon successful academic review.
Responsibilities
All tenure-track faculty at the UW engage in research, teaching, and service. Successful candidates will be expected to pursue a rigorous research agenda and teach classes at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in Information Technology. Successful candidates will be expected to teach in a variety of modalities, including online, hybrid, and/or in-person, in the context of an urban-serving university campus. The expected teaching load for this position six courses (or equivalent) per academic year. Successful candidates will also participate in service to the university and profession and will be expected to contribute substantially toward creating a diverse and inclusive community of faculty, staff, and students.
Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to: research, teaching, or industry experience in a relevant field; demonstrated cross-disciplinary expertise in research and teaching; and research foci in AI in Information Technology, AI in Cyber Security, Cloud Computing Applications, and/or Internet of Things.
Compensation
The base salary range for this position is $12,667 to $13,000 per month ($114,003 to $117,000 annually per 9-month academic year), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include a one-time relocation allowance and startup professional development package. An earned Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Information Technology or Computer Science or a related field is required by the time of appointment. In exceptional circumstances, candidates in the final stages of the Ph.D. (pending conferral) may be selected and appointed on an acting basis.
