The Chief Information Officer provides leadership for the provision of all campus technology services at UW-River Falls. This position develops and communicates institutional strategic plans to ensure that resources are utilized and to provide effective, high-quality information technology services in support of the university's teaching, research, service, and administrative goals. The CIO is responsible for providing vision and leadership in planning, development, integration, maintenance, and support of information and instructional technology.
Working collaboratively with campus constituents, the CIO helps set priorities for the deployment of technology and interacts directly with institutional leadership. This role typically manages IT services through subordinate directors and identifies changes and trends in computer and systems technology, interpreting their meaning to senior management.
Areas of responsibility include technology services, help desk, IT service management, project management, technology procurement, budget management, technology contract management, computer and instructional labs, classroom technology, enterprise applications, application and development services, servers, storage area network, network and VoIP infrastructure, audio and media services, web services, information security, ID carding office, desktop/endpoint administration and support services, and other event-related technology support.
Additional responsibilities include serving as Vice-Chair of the University Technology Council, participating as a member of the Chancellor's Cabinet and the University of Wisconsin System CIO Council, and representing the University's information technology interests at the regional, state, and national levels.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, Information Systems, or a related field in information and instructional technology.
At least five years of progressively responsible experience in managing information and technology services in a complex environment with broad knowledge of the latest information technology trends and applications, preferably in support of university operations.
Thorough knowledge of computing, networking, and support service delivery in a complex environment.
Strong leadership and management experience, with the proven ability to manage a large and diverse staff, including the allocation of human and financial resources.
Demonstrated expertise in customer service, IT service management, and project management methodologies.
Excellent decision-making abilities
Deep understanding of administrative computing systems in ERP solutions
Demonstrated ability to mobilize resources effectively and foster innovation by leveraging core infrastructure services to support research, learning, and service functions.
Proven track record of building and leading teams, nurturing collaborative relationships, and providing direction to senior leaders across the institution.
Ability to engage and collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to plan, promote, implement, and assess IT services.
Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels, including senior institutional leaders, UW System, and governmental/legislative bodies.
Ability to set and prioritize objectives within a budget and demonstrate visionary thinking to achieve long-term goals.
Proven commitment to fostering and maintaining a service-oriented culture in IT services and operations.
Strong ability to take a proactive management approach, balancing short-term needs with long-term strategy.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in business administration, Information Systems, or a related field in information and instructional technology.
ERP experience in distance learning and diverse course delivery models.
Experience and proven ability to work effectively with academic governance processes and integrate them into IT planning and decision-making.
