GENERAL DUTIES
EOC IT Assistants perform entry-level professional work in technology-related disciplines at Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC). While areas of specialization vary, typically EOC IT Assistants work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar based on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving minor technology problems, monitoring activities, and maintaining documentation. They have latitude for independent initiative and judgment, under supervision.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The State University of New York, Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center (BEOC), located in downtown Brooklyn as part of CUNY-New York City College of Technology, provides tuition free academic and workforce development training to eligible New York State residents, providing a pathway to lifelong learning, college access and economic self-sufficiency. The BEOC welcomes applications for a full-time position of EOC IT Assistant Level 1.
The EOC IT Assistant supports BEOC?s day-to-day IT operations by resolving technical issues, managing devices and user accounts, and assisting in classroom technology setups. This role ensures smooth digital access for staff, faculty, and students.
The IT Assistant will:
Provide frontline support for computers, printers, and AV equipment.
Troubleshoot software, logins, network, and hardware issues.
Assist with onboarding tech needs (email accounts, access setup).
Coordinate classroom technology, including projectors and smartboards.
Maintain IT inventory and assist in upgrades or installations.
Track service requests and document resolutions.
Deliver basic training to staff/students on software and platforms.
Monitor and report potential system issues or security breaches.
Work under the direction of the Computer Operations Manager on larger projects.
Ensure all user support services align with institutional IT protocols.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
A minimum of six months of full-time experience in a computer or technology-related position. Experience that is more than 20 hours per week and less than 35 hours per week may be counted at 50% of the requirement (i.e., two months of part time experience equal to one month full time experience)
Additional experience and/or education that can be met by ONE of the following: An additional three years and six months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; an Associate's degree plus 18 months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Demonstrated English Language proficiency
A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
This title has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.
COMPENSATION
New Hire: $54,851*
Incumbent: $61,981
*This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.
