Type: Full-time
Internal Number: 494847
Stanford seeks an expert in international security and nuclear security to hold the Stanton Foundation Professorship in Nuclear Security. A joint appointment would be made at tenured rank of Associate Professor or Professor in a Stanford department or school and as a Senior Fellow on a continuing term with an endowed chair at the Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC), Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI). Faculty from the social sciences, engineering, and physical sciences are all encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate for this position will be an internationally recognized scholar with an interest and expertise in nuclear and security related research as demonstrated through prior publications, teaching, or public service. He or she may well have other significant interests and expertise as well that would add to Stanford’s faculty community working on a variety of security issues. In addition, he or she may also have a record of policy relevant publication, teaching, or public service in additional security studies areas such as the military technology, nuclear power, and risk analysis, or on nuclear weapons states, states at risk for nuclear proliferation, and their security relationships with the United States.
Applicants should possess an exceptional record of research and publication and be committed to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and training pre- and post-doctoral fellows at CISAC to become the next generation of scholars on international security policy. Applicants might also have substantial interest or proven expertise in making, advising or implementing national or international security policy. The successful candidates will be expected to provide leadership for the study of international security issues at Stanford University.
Application packages should be submitted online and include the following documents: 1) a curriculum vitae with complete bibliography; 2) a research statement (up to 2 pages); 3) a statement of teaching interests (1 page); 4) up to three examples of scholarly publications; and 5) a cover letter.
Review of application files will start from July 15, 2025. Questions regarding this application may be directed to Patrick Laboon.
The expected base pay range for this position is:
Associate Professor (tenured) and/or Senior Fellow: $ 162,000 - $226,000
Professor (tenured) and/or Senior Fellow: $ 174,000 - $280,000
Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
