NYU Paris is seeking a part-time lecturer to teach the following undergraduate course in Politics: National Security

Starting with the traditional arena of national security and U.S. military policy, students analyze how national security decisions are made in the United States, as well as the past and current military strategies used to carry out those decisions. From there, students examine the particular national security concerns and policies of a range of countries, including France, the European Union, Russia, and China. This course also looks at new thinking on national security, asking to what extent international trade and competition, immigration, illegal drugs, and the environment should be considered national security issues.

Language of instruction: English

Teaching commences in September 2025; courses meet for 3 hours a week for a 14.5 week term.

En commençant par le domaine traditionnel de la sécurité nationale et de la politique militaire américaine, les étudiants analysent la manière dont les décisions en matière de sécurité nationale sont prises aux Etats-Unis, ainsi que les stratégies militaires passées et actuelles utilisées pour mettre en ?uvre ces décisions. Ils examinent ensuite les préoccupations et les politiques de plusieurs pays, dont la France, l'Union Européenne, la Russie,  et la Chine. Ce cours aborde également de nouvelles réflexions sur la sécurité nationale, en se demandant dans quelle mesure le commerce international et la concurrence, l'immigration, les drogues illégales et l'environnement devraient être considérés comme des questions de sécurité nationale.

L'enseignement commence en septembre 2025; les cours se rencontrent 3 heures par semaine pour une durée de 14,5 semaines.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Political Science, and two or three semesters of teaching or comparable experience.

The appointed person will have full responsibility for teaching and coordinating the course. The course is taught in a seminar, discussion-based style and offered to undergraduate students, mostly in their second or third year of study. All students are NYU students enrolled in NYU degrees in New York, Abu Dhabi or Shanghai who come to study at NYU Paris for one semester. Classes take place at our Academic Centre in Paris.

La personne nommée aura l'entière responsabilité d'enseigner et de coordonner le cours.  Le cours est enseigné en forme de séminaire et est offert aux étudiants de premier cycle, pour la plupart dans leur deuxième ou troisième année d'études. Les étudiants sont en premier cycle et viennent des campus de NYU à New York, Shanghai et Abu Dhabi afin d'étudier à NYU Paris pour un semestre. Le cours a lieu dans notre centre académique à Paris.
