JOB DUTIES As part of the MCCC college safety operation you will provide security officer services to project a security presence, which may include operating a vehicle to perform patrol, inspection, and/or incident response services.
Security Officers are deemed essential employees and are required to work during a business closure to meet operational requirements.
College Safety Officers will utilize good judgement in decision-making and actions in the execution of duties ensuring the safety of the College community and all stakeholders
College Safety Officers will use technology and systems required to perform the job
May be exposed to or required to handle sensitive and confidential information.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides mobile and stationary patrol to project a security presence; maintains radio or other communications contact with other College Safety personnel to report status or incidents, or to request additional assistance or response.
Checks for unsafe conditions, hazards, security violations, and unauthorized persons; inspects buildings, grounds, and security devices; monitors and sets security devices.
Protects life and safeguards property; enforces college rules and regulations.
Protects evidence or scene of incident in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security investigations; sets up barriers and signage, and provides direction or information to others.
Prepares logs or reports as required for patrol route; writes and/or types reports and/or enters information in a computer using standard grammar; inspects security control logs and acts as required.
Observes and reports incidents, hazards, or suspicious activity to supervisors, college management, life/safety personnel or public safety authorities as appropriate for the circumstances and/or as required.
Responds to incidents of fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, elevator emergency, hazardous materials, inclement weather, and other incidents or conditions following procedures established for assignment, by the company, or through training or certification.
Carries out specific tasks and duties of a similar nature and scope as required. Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
May be exposed to stressful situations, such as challenging individuals who are in or approaching an unauthorized area.
May be required to work overtime without advance notice.
Required ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
May require driving vehicle for long periods of time in the performance of duties.
On occasion may be required to perform stressful and physical activity.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age.
High School Diploma or GED
Must undergo and meet company standards for background and reference checks, in addition to any mandatory licensing requirements.
Must have a reliable means of communication.
Must possess/maintain a valid driver's license, Driving record must meet company and/or insurance standards.
Ability to speak, read, and write English.
College Safety Officers must possess a current SORA certification issued by the New Jersey State Police. If the candidate does not currently possess a SORA card, they shall acquire one within 2 months from date of hire. CPR/AED certification preferred; shall obtain following hiring
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working in an educational environment with staff, faculty and students
Prior experience in the security, law enforcement or related fields.
EMT certification or First Responder certification preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of or ability to learn security operations and procedures.
Ability to maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances
Courteous telephone and communication manner.
Ability to adapt to changes in the external environment and organization.
Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at various social levels and across diverse cultures.
