The Charlotte County Airport Authority is seeking a proactive Manager of Safety & Security to oversee safety and regulatory security compliance at Punta Gorda Airport (PGD). This role develops, implements, and evaluates airport-wide safety programs, manages inspections and audits. The position also oversees the credentialing office, LEO support contracts, access control systems, and ensures TSA and federal compliance. A bachelor’s degree is required, with at least one year of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination). Must hold a valid driver’s license and pass a TSA Security Threat Assessment. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in emergency management, safety, or a related field, with at least one year of directly related experience (or equivalent education and experience). Must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a TSA Security Threat Assessment.
This position requires a proactive leader with strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of developing and enforcing airport safety and security programs in compliance with FAA, TSA, and other federal/state regulations. The Manager of Safety & Security oversees credentialing, audits, inspections, emergency coordination, and acts as the Airport Security Coordinator. Must be comfortable with high visibility responsibilities, including inter-agency coordination, contract oversight, and program evaluation. Familiarity with airport operations, SMS, ASP, access control systems, and emergency planning is highly preferred.
The Charlotte County Airport Authority (CCAA), governed by five elected commissioners, owns and operates the Punta Gorda Airport (PGD), located off I-75 between exits 161 and 164. PGD provides quick and easy access to Southwest Florida, and is home to commercial air service, air charters, medical transport services, aircraft maintenance and avionics repair, as well as flight schools, distributers, and manufacturers. CCAA is a nontaxing entity and operates as an enterprise fund, totally supported by revenue generated from its operations including rental car concession, parking, fuel sales, and hangar, building and land leases on its 2,000-acre property. The CCAA is an independent special district pursuant to chapter 189, Florida Statutes, and operates in accordance with FAA requirements and guidelines. A 2019 economic impact study by the FDOT estimated that PGD is responsible for 15,000 jobs and $1.7 billion in total economic output. PGD operates commercial services with Allegiant Air and Sun Country, serving over 1.5 million passengers in 2021. PGD also serves a large General Aviation community with 400 based aircraft.
