Joe Wheeler EMC, located in North Alabama, is seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Information Technology to join our team.

Position Summary

The Director of Information Technology (IT) provides vision, leadership, and oversight of all technology functions at Joe Wheeler EMC.  This role ensures that IT infrastructure, business systems, and communications networks support the Cooperative’s mission of providing safe, reliable, and affordable electric and broadband services to members. The Director of IT leads a team of IT professionals, manages critical vendor relationships, and ensures that systems are secure, resilient, and aligned with the Cooperative’s strategic objectives.

Objectives

• Oversee the planning, development, and management of all IT systems, applications, and network infrastructure.
• Ensure the cooperative’s technology platforms (including NISC, OMS, SCADA, AMI, GIS, and broadband systems) operate securely, efficiently, and reliably.
• Provide leadership and direction to IT staff, fostering professional growth and accountability.
• Align IT initiatives with enterprise priorities, regulatory requirements, and member needs.
• Promote innovation and digital transformation to improve operational efficiency and member engagement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or closely related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience of progressively responsible management experience, as well as Sys Admin experience, database management, networking, computer operations, system troubleshooting, and use of system utilities.
• Desired certifications include Cisco CCNP/CCIE, VMware VCP, Arista, Ciena, Palo Alto, Azure, Cloud Computing, Active Directory, MCSA/MCSE, CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or equivalent
• Strong background in:
  • Cybersecurity, data privacy, and compliance requirements.
  • LAN/WAN administrations, routing/switching, and wireless networks.
  • Utility applications (SCADA, OMS, AMI, CIS, GIS).
• Effective communicator with ability to interact across departments, vendors, regulators, and members.
• Proven ability to lead teams, manage projects, and align IT initiatives with strategic business needs.
