The Montana Electric Cooperatives’ Association (MECA) is seeking a dynamic, experienced individual to serve as its Director of Government Relations. This position plays a pivotal role in advocating for Montana’s rural electric cooperatives at both the state and federal levels.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as MECA’s primary lobbyist at the Montana Legislature.
Provide expert testimony at hearings and build strong working relationships with lawmakers, the Governor’s office, and state agency officials.
Monitor and engage in federal legislative and regulatory issues, working closely with Montana’s congressional delegation and federal agencies.
Collaborate with MECA leadership to establish policy priorities and strategies that benefit member cooperatives.
Manage MECA’s Political Action Committee (PAC), including recruitment, member tracking, contribution decisions, and meeting administration.
Oversee MECA’s grassroots program, including member recruitment and communication on government affairs issues.
Periodic travel within Montana and out-of-state to attend member cooperative, regional and national organization meetings.
Qualifications:
Prior lobbying experience is required.
Exceptional presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
A college degree in a related field is preferred.
Valid driver’s license required.
Knowledge of electricity generation, transmission, and distribution is a plus.
Must reside within a 30-minute drive of the Montana State Capitol in Helena.
