The Department of Government at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2026.
By time of appointment applicants must have a Ph.D. in Political Science or a closely-related discipline that includes significant training in political science. The position has a teaching load of 2:2 – i.e., four semester-long courses over the academic year. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to student learning beyond regular classes through directing student research and Honors theses, offering independent studies, and helping with department administrative, curricular and advising responsibilities. We expect the new faculty member will also participate in Smith’s interdisciplinary program in Latin American and Latino/a Studies.
Candidates for the position should have a focus on Latin American politics in their research and teaching. We encourage applications from scholars using a range of methodological approaches and focusing on a variety of topics and themes pertaining to their regional specialization. We anticipate that a successful candidate for this position will also be prepared to teach Introduction to Comparative Politics as well as upper-division courses relating to their specific area(s) of expertise.
