Type: Full Time
Salary: $107,906 - $148,368
Required Education:
4 Year Degree
At the Truckee Tahoe Airport District (TTAD), we are committed to delivering a safe, secure, and community-responsive airport experience that reflects the unique character and values of our mountain region. We are currently seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable, and community-focused professional to serve as our Airport Safety, Security, and Community Engagement Manager.
About the Role: As the Airport Safety, Security, and Community Engagement Manager, you will serve as a key leader at the Truckee Tahoe Airport District, overseeing a wide array of safety and regulatory responsibilities while acting as a liaison to the community. Reporting to the Director of Aviation, you will manage the District’s safety and security programs to ensure compliance with FAA, TSA, and Cal/OSHA regulations, and will coordinate emergency preparedness efforts in collaboration with local first responders. You’ll oversee access control systems, conduct routine security audits, and manage the District’s stormwater and hazardous materials programs. In addition, you’ll take the lead on responding to community noise and annoyance concerns—using specialized tracking tools, analyzing trends, communicating with pilots and residents, and promoting noise abatement strategies.
This role also involves preparing reports and presenting findings to the Board of Directors and senior leadership, managing vendor contracts, applying for grants, and supporting internal policy development. You’ll play a key role in building public trust by engaging transparently with community members and implementing solutions that support both airport operations and neighborhood quality of life.
The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate is a skilled aviation professional who brings a well-rounded blend of technical knowledge, regulatory experience, and a strong commitment to community service. You are confident in your ability to interpret and apply complex safety, security, and environmental regulations, and have a track record of developing policies and procedures that improve both compliance and operational effectiveness. Your communication skills allow you to connect with pilots, regulators, Board Members, and community members alike, whether you're presenting reports, responding to complaints, or leading training efforts.
You’re highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities, and skilled at analyzing data to inform sound decision-making. With a proactive mindset and a customer-service orientation, you’re ready to lead programs that reflect the District’s strategic plan while enhancing safety and public trust in airport operations.
Minimum Qualifications: • Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience in aviation safety, airport operations, accident/safety investigations, or community relations. • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Safety, Communications, or a related field. • Certifications (Desirable): AAAE ACE – Operations, OSHA 30-Hour, and/or Private Pilot’s License. • License: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license.
Work Environment: This position involves a mix of office, field, and community engagement work, including occasional evenings and weekends for meetings and events. The ability to respond during emergencies and perform in diverse weather and terrain conditions is required.
Join Our Team: The Truckee Tahoe Airport District offers a supportive work environment, professional development opportunities, and the chance to make a meaningful impact in one of the most scenic and vibrant communities in California.
If you’re ready to lead and serve in a unique and rewarding public service role, we encourage you to apply.
