Job Description Summary
The Senior SOX IT Manager reports to the Senior Director of SOX Compliance and plays a key role in managing the IT components of the companyâ™s global Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance program. This position is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and testing of IT general controls (ITGCs) and application controls to ensure compliance with SOX Section 404. The role involves close collaboration with IT, Internal Audit, external auditors, and business stakeholders to assess risks, evaluate control effectiveness, and support remediation efforts. The Senior SOX IT Manager also contributes to the continuous improvement of IT compliance processes and promotes strong IT governance across the organization.
This team member will be reporting into the Chicago office 3 days a week, with flexibility to work from home 2 days a week.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Lead IT SOX Compliance Activities: Manage the planning, execution, and monitoring of IT General Controls (ITGCs) and application controls as part of the SOX 404 compliance program.
- Coordinate with Stakeholders: Collaborate with IT leadership, business process owners, and external auditors to support risk assessments, scoping, and control testing activities.
- Support Risk Assessment and Scoping: Assist in performing IT risk assessments and contribute to the quarterly and annual SOX scoping process, ensuring appropriate coverage of IT systems and processes.
- Oversee IT Testing and Documentation: Supervise the execution of IT control testing, including walkthroughs and operating effectiveness testing, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
- Partner with Global Teams: Work closely with regional IT teams and the SOX Center of Excellence (COE) to ensure consistent application of SOX controls and testing methodologies.
- Promote Best Practices: Support the development and implementation of IT SOX compliance best practices, including training IT control owners and operators on control design and execution.
- Monitor and Report on IT Compliance: Track and report on IT SOX testing progress, deficiencies, and remediation efforts. Provide updates to senior SOX leadership and contribute to quarterly reporting.
- Facilitate External Audit Coordination: Act as a liaison with external auditors for IT-related SOX matters, supporting audit requests and facilitating reliance on managementâ™s testing where applicable.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance IT control effectiveness and efficiency, and support remediation of control deficiencies.
- Foster a Culture of Compliance: Encourage strong IT governance and compliance awareness across the organization through collaboration and education.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Accountancy.
- 10+ years of external or internal auditing with a public accounting firm and / or publicly-traded company, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Public accounting experience required.
- Expertise in SOX 404 compliance in financial reporting areas, including business process and controls IT general controls
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks and develop control solutions.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, COSO framework, and PCAOB standards
- CPA, CIA, or CISA is strongly preferred
- Apply knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, IT general controls, and the COSO framework
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders. Ability to work and communicate with all levels of management and functions.
- Manage direct and indirect reports and ensure strong engagement. Provide coaching, mentoring, and career counseling.
- Project Manage collaboratively and constructively across geographies, functions, and time zones, assisting colleagues to meet their deadlines with high quality deliverables. Provide accurate and timely reporting of status and results
- Ability to manage by influence. Excellent soft skills, including communication, management of direct and indirect reports, negotiation, and being able to drive win-win solutions wherever possible
- Demonstrate analytical, accounting and audit skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, follow-through, and manage multiple competing tasks, responsibilities, and deadlines.
- Self-starter with flexibility, desire, and eagerness to take ownership of related tasks and responsibilities in order to keep the project on schedule.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Must have the ability to contribute in meetings and be well versed on activities and issues within business processes.

The company will not pay less than minimum wage for this role.
