The basics of this position:
Performs necessary duties to provide a safe and physically secure environment; reports hazardous conditions; performs general office duties. Candidates must be highly competent and personable reflecting a positive and welcoming image of the college in every encounter. Prior experience is preferred to include training in self-defense, basic first aid, criminal law, detection of suspicious or criminal activity and the prevention of theft and/or deterrence of vandalism. Candidates protect, safeguard and secure college assets, students, staff, tenants and visitors to all STLCC campuses and sites.
What you'll do:
Provides a safe and secure environment, conducts armed patrol of designated areas to deter criminal activities and investigates, apprehends or detains individuals suspected or convicted of offenses against applicable criminal laws, maintains surveillance of vehicle movement and parking, issues violation notices.
Complete tasks as part of team or solo through post assignments or active vehicle or foot patrol, remaining diligent in their crime prevention efforts.
Monitor video surveillance system and either report or respond to suspicious activity.
Must remain visible and observant at all times, greeting staff, students, visitors and vendors in a courteous, attentive and professional manner.
Provides assistance to motorists, assists with jump-starts, opens locked doors, administers emergency first aid.
Reports/responds to hazardous conditions, weather alerts, panic alarms, civil disobedience, accidents, bomb threats fires, stolen articles, etc. May perform general office duties, ability to answer questions and provide directions to callers.
Respond to distress calls, panic alarms and emergency calls for service in a swift and appropriate manner.
Maintain the college’s professional reputation in appearance, manner and act.
Inspect assigned locations for open/unlocked doors and windows, damage, safety hazards and/or mechanical issues.
May assist College Police Officers with their duties. Professional collaboration between commissioned and non-commissioned personnel.
Uses patrol car, handgun, radio and microphone:
Vehicle use subject to assignment and must be handled and maintained according to traffic laws and college policy.
Weapon use is subject to STLCCPD policy and St. Louis Watchmen’s Division policy.
Two-way radio communication/microphone used to receive and report sensitive and necessary information.
Assist general public and individuals associated with the college by answering questions, locating offices, providing escorts and preparing necessary written communications (reports, logs, etc.).
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education, experience, and other requirements:
• Must be at least 21 years of age. • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. • Must have and retain a valid driver’s license. • Must be free of conviction of a felony.
Preferred Qualifications:
• At least one year of security experience (preferred).
