Job Overview

The Dispatcher, Security Guard is responsible for the supervision and operation of the Georgetown University Police Communications Center. The primary duties will include Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement, Training, Managing Communications Center Systems and Accreditation Assurance. The incumbent will supervise, assign, schedule and review the work of dispatchers who receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls; monitor phone and radio traffic to ensure procedural compliance; review case information entered into the computer system; conduct quality assurance feedback and coaching sessions with assigned employees at regular intervals; operate and monitor sophisticated communications systems including Computer Aided Dispatch and Radio System, and National Crime Information Center (NCIC); initially troubleshoot issues and report appropriate failure to the correct person(s); prepare and complete analytical and statistical reports and memos as required; prepare copies of recordings as directed; remain current on job specific procedures through attending training courses in order to apply appropriate methodologies.

Work Interactions

The Dispatcher, Security Guard position reports to the Police Lieutenant, Support Services. All Communications Staff will report directly to the Communications Supervisor.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in criminal justice or related field required
  
• Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible law enforcement communications experience related to public safety
  
• Knowledge of Police dispatch, and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) operator functions
  
• Modern and complex principles and practices of providing emergency communication services. Operations, services and activities of an emergency communications or dispatch program. Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers. Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
  
• Ability to supervise, evaluate, manage, and motivate subordinate personnel is essential. Possess tact, a courteous demeanor and pleasant personality in order to deal with students, staff, faculty, visitors, dignitaries, and the neighboring community. Ability to perform complex operations under stress
  
• Must be technologically savvy including the proficient use of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
  
• Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$44,022.00 - $73,406.80

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
