Escambia County is seeking a Deputy Director of Engineering

Recruitment Hiring Range:  $128,000 – $160,000 Annually

The Deputy Director of the Engineering Department plans, organizes, and provides direction and oversight for comprehensive department programs of the County including planning and coordinating, attending Board meetings, and other administrative duties and training functions in accordance with the mission goals and objectives articulated by the Department Director.

The Deputy Director is responsible for leading and managing key areas including transportation planning, project management, construction oversight, and engineering operations. The Deputy Director combines deep technical knowledge with strong leadership, organizational, and strategic planning skills.

The Deputy Director ensures assigned program functions meet all applicable laws, regulations, and County policies and administrative rules; provides professional assistance to County leadership and staff in areas of expertise; fosters cooperative working relationships with intergovernmental and regulatory agencies; and performs other duties as assigned. This position requires discretion to work with confidential and sensitive issues on a regular basis.

The Deputy Director reports directly to the Department Director.

Training and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field and five years minimum work experience as a Professional Engineer, of which three years must be in a supervisory/management position; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field

Licenses and Certifications:

Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Florida or the ability to obtain within six months by having certification in a state that has a reciprocal licensing agreement with the state of Florida

Must possess a valid driver's license from state of residence
